  • How early can an infant begin swimming lessons?

    Hi Moms

My daughter is 4 months old right now. I am hoping to put her in swimming lessons this summer when she will be 6-7 months. I was wondering if thats too young for an infant to begin swimming? Aside from the swimming itself, what about the pool being a source of infections?

    Thanks!

I had my first daughter in "lessons" at 6 months and it was a waste of money. Basically these "lessons" are just to get the baby comfortable with the water. Even though the water was fairly warm, her lips were always blue by the time the lesson was over. I think you could do the same with your baby without PAYING for lessons. You take your baby in the water with you and sing songs, dance around, let her splash. You don’t really need a swim teacher showing you how to do that. Hopefully the pool you are in uses the necessary amount of chlorine to rid potential harmful bacteria. I think you daughter is safe in that respect but just don’t let her drink the water!
